Rainy day, dreamy house
August 11, 2016
It's a miserable, rainy day in Belgium and it's supposed to be summer. So i'm staying in, snuggling with Lenni (our 2year old Shiba Inu) on the couch. The perfect setting to start daydreaming about what my perfect house would look like.
I started making my mood board, gathering pictures of rooms and interiors that make me dream, put them side by side and figure out how to unite them all. The hardest thing is to make a coherent pattern, especially because i love so many different styles.
This is what i came up with.
1. Kitchen
My dream kitchen has huge steel windows that bring the garden into the kitchen and give loads of daylight. Industrial concrete floors contrasting with soft textiles and no cabinets above the sink, just a basic plain shelf to show off pretty stuff.
2. Bohemian terrace
I'd love the terrace or patio to be floored in the same material as the kitchen, so indoor & outdoor are connected. For the styling, blend some Palm Springs with Ibiza:
huge terracotta pots, lots of cactuses, brick walls and top it of with
our fine bamboo loungeset. Hot summer nights guaranteed!
3. Living room
I'm a fan of concrete; the colour, the feel, the look... Love it!
A concrete floor gives a simple, modest feel to the space and keeps all options open for interior & styling. On top of that it's so versatile for blending in other materials, such as these stairs in reclaimed wood and black steel stringer. I really like how this house plays around with different levels.
4. Bathroom
Again: keep it simple, i believe it to be the key of elegant homes. Such a simple bathroom, yet so perfect! Lots of light, spacious, clean but warm and of course ... concrete, twice!
